At St Piers, we have three Residential Special School boarding houses, which offer residential accommodation for children who require this to access their school education.
The principles and practice of our boarding provision are set out in our Statement of Purpose. This statement is child and young person centred and produced in consultation with families, reflecting current policy and best practice guidance. The Statement of Purpose states how we work to support children and young people. It also explains the ethos and philosophy of the school, and what we an offer to those we support.

Our Statement of Purpose sets out the aims, values and operating principles that underpin all residential care at St Piers. It is there to help young people, their families, commissioners and regulators understand what to expect from our residential services and how we work to support every resident to live well.
Our Commitment to Residents
At St Piers we are passionate about supporting the best interests of children and young people and working in partnership with families to achieve this goal. We want every resident to feel comfortable, safe and secure in their surroundings.
Our residential houses are spacious, well-equipped and staffed by experienced, fully qualified residential staff who undergo regular training to update their skills. Each resident has their own bedroom, which they can decorate as they wish, and is matched with a peer group wherever possible to make it easier to interact with others, make friends and share interests.
How We Work
We follow an 'Extended Day' curriculum to give residents structure and support their communication, independence and self-care skills throughout the whole day, not just during classroom hours. Our residential staff work closely with our therapy and medical teams to make sure pupils and students receive personalised care.
We know how important it is for young people to receive love and support from their families and to maintain regular contact with them. Family and friends are always welcome to visit. You can also keep in touch by phone or via FaceTime.
Regulatory Framework
All residential provision at St Piers is regulated by either Ofsted (children's residential) or the Care Quality Commission (adult residential). We welcome inspection and are committed to openness and continuous improvement.
