St Piers College is proud to be part of #ThePowerofSpecialistFE Awareness Week, taking place from 1–5 December.
Throughout the week, we’ll be celebrating the incredible achievements of our learners, recognising the dedication of our staff, and showcasing to policymakers and decision-makers why specialist FE settings are vital in creating positive futures for young people.
In the run-up to and during the week, we’ll share inspiring stories and highlight the steps we’ve taken to demonstrate the real impact of collaboration. Together, we can drive greater support for specialist FE and show how these environments transform lives and strengthen communities.
Chloe’s Journey
Since beginning her Specialist Further Education journey, Chloe has truly flourished. She gained hands-on experience in social media, photography, and videography during a year working with the Content Manager at St Piers – even creating her own reels for internal and external audiences.
Her journey didn’t stop there. Chloe explored work experience opportunities at Garden Army and Godstone Farm (where she now works part-time), and turned her passion for creativity into a thriving crochet business, proudly selling her handmade pieces at one of our events.
Chloe also volunteers with her local youth theatre group, inspiring and supporting young performers. Her confidence and skills have soared – a transformation made possible thanks to The Power of Specialist FE
Adam's journey
When Adam first joined St Piers, he was a very anxious young man. He preferred spending time alone and found it difficult to interact with his peers or fully access his timetable.
Over time, everything changed. Being part of St Piers helped Adam grow in confidence in ways that are truly remarkable. Today, he attends all his lessons with enthusiasm, knows his friends and staff by name, and brings joy to everyone around him.
Adam is funny, cheeky, and wonderfully chatty – yet always kind, patient, and friendly. His attention to detail in art classes is exceptional, and his ability to balance fun with compassion makes him someone everyone loves to work with.
Watching Adam’s transformation from quiet and reserved to confident and full of life has been nothing short of inspiring. We couldn’t be prouder of the person he has become.
William’s Journey
Specialist Further Education has transformed William’s life in ways that are truly inspiring.
When William first started college, he faced challenges with confidence and communication. Today, thanks to the support and opportunities provided through Specialist FE, he has grown into a confident, capable young man ready for the future.
William has learned how to speak to new people and feel comfortable meeting others. He can now regulate his emotions and use appropriate language, making communication easier and more positive.
College has given him the confidence to perform in shows and take part in activities he never thought possible. He has built meaningful relationships with friends and staff, creating a strong sense of belonging and community.
Alongside these achievements, William has gained essential life skills, including how to stay safe when out and about – such as road safety. These experiences have helped him grow as a person and feel prepared for the next chapter of his life.
This is the power of Specialist Further Education – building confidence, creating opportunities, and changing lives.
