Exploring the World of Work at St Piers

As part of our Careers Week celebrations, students across all ages and abilities at St Piers immersed themselves in a fantastic range of workshops, creative activities and real-world experiences – all designed to spark curiosity and confidence in the world of work.

Here are just some of the highlights from the week:

🕰️ Antiques Workshop with Lennox Cato

We were thrilled to welcome Lennox Cato from BBC’s Antiques Roadshow, who also owns and runs his own antique shop in Edenbridge. Lennox delivered engaging workshops to several classes, sharing his expertise in valuing exquisite antiques and exploring what makes an item truly special. It was a brilliant opportunity to learn from a real-life specialist in a fascinating field.

🎧 DJ Workshop

Students also had the chance to step behind the decks in a DJ workshop, learning how to mix songs, match tempos and understand the rhythm of music. It was a high-energy, confidence-boosting session that brought out their inner performers.

🌸 Flower Arranging

Creativity bloomed in our flower arranging sessions, where students designed and created their own floral displays. These activities encouraged focus, fine motor skills and self-expression through colour and form.

💇 Hair & Beauty Workshops

In our Hair and Beauty sessions, students practised styling and cutting hair, as well as trying their hand at make-up, nail art and even spa treatments. These hands-on workshops gave learners a fantastic insight into the personal care industry.

🧑‍🍳 Role Play for Early Years

Our youngest students explored careers through imaginative dress-up play, taking on roles such as chefs, vets, doctors, police officers and firefighters. It was a fun and creative way for children to begin thinking about the many jobs people do.

🐣 Easter Enterprise Markets

Enterprise came to life through student-run stalls selling handmade Easter-themed items, created by classes across the school.

  • Newton Class ran stalls at East Grinstead Farmers Market and Edenbridge Market, showcasing brilliant teamwork and customer service.
  • Voyager Class managed our in-school market, ensuring everyone at St Piers could join in the enterprise experience.

From infants through to Post-16, every class took part in exploring the world of work. Whether through creativity, collaboration, performance or entrepreneurship, our students embraced the week with enthusiasm and pride.

A huge thank you to all staff, visitors and students who made this such a successful and inspiring experience!
