During the Autumn Term two classes in School Sixth Form started a Mini Enterprise as part of a Work Related Learning Unit to raise money for a Charity. All Students and Staff in School were given a choice of Charities and the winner was Guide Dogs for The Blind.
One class chose to make calendars and the other coasters. All students were involved in buying the materials we needed to make our products by visiting Hobbycraft and taking orders from staff, students and parents. Students used their ipad drawing applications to create some stunning calendars which were very popular.
The coasters were created by students painting their own design on card and adding glitter and sequins. All students participated in creating coasters, delivering them to staff and collecting money.
We raised £100.
On the 6 February a spokeswoman, Maggie Hunt, from the Guide Dogs for the Blind and her Guide Dog, Truffle, visited St Piers School. They spent the afternoon with Class Groups informing them about the Guide Dogs for the Blind and answering questions.
All of the students had come prepared with well thought out questions to ask and listened very well to Maggie. Later Maggie and Truffle visited several classrooms.
The students really enjoyed stroking Truffle and some were very interested in the equipment that Truffle had to wear. At the end of the visit June Atkins presented Maggie with a cheque for £100 to assist with the training of future Guide Dogs.
Thank you to all the students, staff and parents who helped to raise this money for a very important charity.
Thank you to Maggie Hunt and Truffle for visiting St Piers School and explaining how the money we have raised will be used.
